Awareness and education

Subproject I "Awareness and education about mental illness"

Sub-project I aims, by means of an information campaign, to increase the awareness of the Hamburg population regarding mental illnesses and to improve knowledge about mental illnesses in the Hamburg population. This should be achieved through a large-scale four-year media campaign for which the German advertising agency Heye & Partner GmbH has been gained as a partner, information and exchange projects as well as trialogical training programmes organised by the patients' association Irre menschlich Hamburg e.V.

Through films, brochures and placards, the media campaign imparts emotionally charged target group-oriented and illness-specific information about mental illnesses. All materials refer to as well as to a hotline/ skype service, through which the Hamburg population can inform themselves about mental illnesses and the possibilities to treat them, or receive targeted advice.

A broad training initiative has the ultimate goal of providing education and (continuing) training for important reference persons, health advisers and professionals in Hamburg regarding mental illnesses based on train-the-trainer concepts. To this aim, cooperation agreements are made with the respective partners and a four-year training programme on early detection, diagnosis, treatment and help for mental illnesses is developed. Here, is in turn used as an information platform in order to provide materials and enable train-the-trainer programmes to be completed online.
