This is psychenet

One in three people will become mentally ill at some point in their lives. Frequently, it can take years before the illness is diagnosed. Treatment standards which have been scientifically established to be effective are not universally applied. Mental illnesses still lead to uncertainty and fears in the population and to the alienation of people with mental illnesses and their family members.

With psychenet – The Hamburg Network for Mental Health – we want to change this together!

A strong network for mental health

psychenet is a network in the region of Hamburg which consists of more than 100 scientific and medical institutions, counselling centres, the Senate and the Chamber of Commerce of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, companies, as well as patients' and relatives' associations.

Together, we work on testing innovative care models which aim to make decisive improvements to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of people with mental illnesses in the region.

Our vision

"To promote mental health today and in the future, concerning early diagnosis and effective treatment of mental illnesses."

Our history

psychenet is one of the winning projects of the competition "Health Regions of the Future – Progress through Research and Innovation", which was announced by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) in 2008. The aim of the competition was to bring together regional stakeholders from medical research, development and healthcare provision in order to give rise to innovations for the healthcare system.

In close collaboration with various Hamburg health experts, public and private institutions as well as associations, companies, health insurers, and stakeholders from politics and industry, the cluster agency Healthcare Hamburg presented an innovative concept for the improvement of mental health in Hamburg and was able to hold its own in the face of the competitors. Together with five other regions, Hamburg was selected as a "health region of the future" at the Capital City Congress in Berlin in May 2010.
