Crisis contact centres

If you need support within a few days!

The following Hamburg contact centres offer personal crisis support and where necessary refer you to further support offers (in descending order based on the length of their opening and consultation hours):

Social Psychiatric Service

The Social Psychiatric Service (SpD) is located in the local health authorities in all Hamburg districts. The Social Psychiatric Service offers free-of-charge counselling and help for people with mental health problems and conditions, in acute crisis situations, with suicidal thoughts, addiction problems, age-related emotional disorders, and mental disabilities, also for family members and the social environment. The team consists of physicians, psychologists, social workers and administrative staff.

Counselling, help referral and crisis intervention take place in the respective offices or where necessary in home visits. In the framework of the guardianship law and the social legislation, the staff additionally acts in a counselling, intermediary, and expert advisory capacity.

This offer only applies during the opening times of the respective social psychiatric service. In Hamburg, there are seven district authorities and therefore also seven Social Psychiatric Services which are responsible for the respective district. Psychosocial Contact and Counselling Centres

There are nine Psychosocial Contact and Counselling Centres (PSK) in Hamburg. They are open to all of those seeking advice who are at risk of or suffering from a mental illness as well as their family members. The offers of the Psychosocial Contact and Counselling Centres are free of charge and range from making contacts, to leisure activities, participation in group offers, and counselling.

The Psychosocial Contact and Counselling Centres ensure immediate counselling in the case of a crisis, open consultation hours and meeting points, anonymity (if desired) and confidentiality. More information on the Psychosocial Contact and Counselling Centres can be found on their joint website.

Psychiatric and psychosomatic out-patient departments

A psychiatric institute out-patient department (PIA) is an out-patient offer of a psychiatric clinic or of a general hospital with a psychiatry department. Accordingly, a psychosomatic out-patient department is an out-patient offer of a clinic for psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy or of a general hospital with a psychosomatic department.

Many mental illnesses can be treated both in psychiatric and psychosomatic out-patient departments. Dementia, alcohol or drug dependency, schizophrenia, delusional disorders, schizoaffective disorders, and manias are generally treated in psychiatric institute out-patient departments and not in psychosomatic out-patient departments.

Counselling centres

Some counselling centres offer personal crisis support.

Specialist physicians and psychotherapists

Within their capacities, registered physicians and psychotherapists also offer support in crises.

Peer support

In peer support, people with experiences of their own mental crises (patient peer counselling) and people with experiences in dealing with their own affected family members (family peer counselling) support other sufferers on the road to recovery following counsellor training.

The counselling is confidential and free of charge, and you determine the frequency and duration. You can be supported for up to half a year. You do not need to register in advance.
